Where To Add Your Voice

“Once you can understand where the conversation is, who leads, the type of voices and the best place for you to add your voice, you can then start becoming a more active participant.” – Mitch Joel, president of Twist Image

It seems that there are a growing number of places to add your two cents - twitter, facebook, linkedin discussions, blog posts and comments, youtube. But where should you add your voice?

Most of you know by now that my preference is twitter. I feel connected to a larger conversation that is going on around me . . . kinda like a cocktail party, where you can meet and mingle with people you do and don't know.

I love the fact that I get to meet and learn from people on a global scale. Breaking news comes from friends who are there, I learn tips and tricks on how to be a better designer, I even have some great conversations about food, travel and where the best vacation spots are or the latest design trends.

With such a vast network of teachers, friends and mentors on twitter, I started to connect with them even more personally via Facebook and Linkedin and learned a very valuable lesson in where to add my voice and where to listen and learn.

Where do you add your voice?

  1. FaceBook and Twitter, and I write at IntrepidMedia.com. But I just feel at home with Twitter. Wish more people "got" it.

  2. Thanks Dirk! I agree, twitter is where I have nested and facebook get more of my facetime than Linkedin.

Though I have to admit I am starting to use Linkedin more since they made the recent changes . . . for so long many users treated group discussion boards as a place to vomit their sales pitch vs. actually having a real discussion.

I stayed with it because of mentors who explained to me that people value integrity and transparency more than a coupon.

  3. Good post Danielle! I agree completely about the larger audience and connections via Twitter!

Personally I utilize Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn primarily. I also use YouTube and my website/blog, but spend most of the time with TW, FB and LI.

  4. Twitter is getting more and more popular. It’s already like a phenomenon on the internet. It is another exciting way for your subscribers or visitors to know you closer.

  5. I agree with you, Twitter just seems to be the best fit for me. I spend very little time on Facebook. I do find I am more and more "curious" about Google+

  6. I think that in 2012 I will be spending more time on the sites that bring me joy. Not just try to be every where and everything to everyone.

I adore using Twitter and now Pinterest has my creative attention! . . . Google plus may replace Facebook. (we will see)
